Choosing A Pool Heater

Selecting the right pool heater is not as simple as it may sound. This article looks at the factors you need to consider:

An unheated pool can only be used when it is warm enough, so your use of your pool can be increased by installing a pool heater. Pool heaters are available from several different manufacturers and in a range of power levels, which means that choosing the right one for you is not easy. 

Pool heaters come in a range of types and capacities and you need to carefully select the right one for your pool. This is not as easy as it seems as although it is easy to calculate the amount of water to be heated there are other factors to take into account which are harder to quantify.
Heater capacity is quoted in BTUs per hour. For example the Raypak Digital (2100) models range from 206 – 406k BTU and the Hayward Universal H Series ranges from 150-400k but the Hayward 250 seems to be most popular. (One BTU is the amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of one pound of water by one degree Fahrenheit.) A larger heater will be slightly more efficient but, at the same time, it would be pointless to spend more than is needed.

Hayward Heat Pump Pool Heater Review

A Hayward heat pump pool heater is a cost effective and environmentally friendly way to heat your pool and the AHRI above Ground Swimming Pool Heat Pump is a good example. The 50K BTU model is suitable for pools up to 13k gallons.

If you just look at the output Hayward heat pumps are considerably more expensive than gas models but they are used in a different way. So, although heat pumps are a bit more expensive to buy, this is offset by the cheaper running costs.

How Do You Train A Cat?

Well you can't really train a cat but this post looks at some of the things you can do to get your cat to do what you want: 

So your cat is misbehaving, maybe scratching the furniture or urinating in the wrong place, and you want to resolve these problems before it spoils your relationship with your pet.  How do you train a cat to do what you want?

Well firstly you cannot train a cat to be obedient in the same way you can with a dog. Cats are very different and if you try this it will backfire and make things worse. Getting angry with a cat that has misbehaved will not work, it could make the cat frightened of you and at best it will only stop the behavior while you are watching.  

With cats you have to think in terms of modifying their behavior rather than training them. This involves understanding why they are doing something and then trying to get them to associate that behavior with a negative outcome.
